Movin' on up! To the East Side!

As if moving to the big crib wasn't enough, Blaise has now moved out of the NICU and onto one of the regular hospital floors. This is a very good sign that she's strong and no longer in need of the level of nursing care that they have in the NICU. We had known that she would move to the floor eventually, but we had no idea until this afternoon how soon it would happen. We are a little nervous about this transition because she won't have a nurse within 10 feet every second of the day and we would definitely have liked more notice on the move itself, but we also know that they wouldn't move her if they didn't believe that she could handle it. When we left tonight, we were pretty comfortable with the situation and I'm sure we'll get more and more used to it over the next few days.

Her new room is a double and I think she might be getting a roomie soon. The semi-private nature of the room means that it's much quieter than the NICU (fewer alarms!) and the nursing ratio is almost as good. Other perks of the move include a window, a place for one of us to sleep in her room if we want to and more freedom to get comfortable without feeling like we might be in the way. The floor also has some strollers and her IV pumps are now on a movable pole, so Blaise might get to see more of the world than the four feet around her crib. There's a play room at the end of the hall with mats for tummy time and loads of toys and books. The final, unanticipated benefit is that she has moved to the top floor of the east wing of the hospital, so singing the theme song from The Jeffersons is appropriate. Photos tomorrow!

These are absolutely wonderful pictures. What a beauty! She looks like perfection in miniature! Good news about the Omegaven. We thought Cary was going to have to have TPN a few times, but nothing long term. So glad there is such a thing as TPN and this new Omegaven. Thank God for drugs! Hang in there. Lots of support, hugs and kisses being sent your way from KC. Love Vicki S.
